Message From Karissa
Hey there! My name is Karissa, and I’m so glad you’re here. You’ve already taken the first courageous step on a journey that, while challenging, is also transformative. As the brilliant Audre Lorde said, “Pain is important: how we evade it, how we succumb to it, how we deal with it, how we transcend it.” I see therapy as a space for that transcendence, where we confront the complex emotions tied to trauma and life’s difficult moments.
As a dedicated therapist, I am deeply passionate about helping my participants untangle and navigate the pain they carry, whether it’s rooted in personal trauma, systemic oppression, or life’s everyday struggles. I believe that understanding our pain is the starting point of healing—and that healing is a radical, necessary act of self-care and resistance, especially for those of us who exist at the intersections of marginalized identities.
As a Black and queer woman, I know firsthand the weight of navigating spaces where you feel misunderstood, unseen, or even judged. Microaggressions, stereotypes, and the constant push to prove yourself—these are battles that many of us face, and they are wounds that deserve to be acknowledged and healed. Representation matters in therapy, because when we see ourselves reflected in our healers, we feel empowered to own our stories without fear of judgment.
Using both my professional training and the insights gained from my own lived experiences, I aim to create an inclusive and affirming therapeutic space. I’m here to walk alongside you as you reclaim your narrative, rediscover your strengths, and become the person you truly believe in. You are worthy of healing and wholeness, and my hope is to guide you toward believing that too.
I believe you are worthy of healing. I want you to believe it too!
I am also a Texas BHEC-approved clinical supervisor for LMSWs. I offer a unique, all-POC space for BIPOC folks to bring their authentic selves into supervision! Let’s connect and create a path toward healing together!
