OUR MISSION

Our mission is to cultivate a nurturing and inclusive environment where Black, Queer, and other underserved individuals can heal and flourish. We are committed to delivering culturally responsive therapy and providing transformative training, consulting, and speaking engagements.

OUR VISION

At Black People of Queer Experience (BPOQe), we aspire to create a society where Black, Queer, and other underserved communities can thrive in a safe and inclusive space. Our commitment to culturally informed therapy and impactful training seeks to address systemic inequities and uplift marginalized voices.

OUR CULTURE

Central to our practice is a decolonized perspective, ensuring that both our services and organizational practices reflect an understanding of historical and systemic inequities. We embrace the rich complexities of intersecting identities and advocate for mental wellness in our communities.

Our Values

We strive to create environments where individuals feel secure to express their authentic selves, fostering both vulnerability and courage in sharing their experiences.

We recognize and celebrate the complex identities of individuals, advocating for liberation that addresses the unique challenges faced by those at the intersections of multiple marginalized identities.

Our practices actively dismantle colonial and oppressive structures, ensuring our services are rooted in an understanding of historical injustices and tailored to empower marginalized communities.

We strive for authentic representation of Black, Queer, and marginalized voices in all aspects of our work, acknowledging that visibility is crucial for empowerment and validation.

We prioritize the mental health and wellness of Black and Queer individuals, recognizing the specific cultural and historical contexts that shape their experiences and needs.

We commit to open communication and accountability in our practices, ensuring our stakeholders understand our decisions and fostering trust within our community.

Our approach is rooted in a commitment to justice, actively working to create inclusive spaces that honor and uplift the diverse identities and experiences of all individuals.

We value an ongoing consent model that emphasizes consent as a continuous journey, requiring regular check-ins to ensure everyone feels comfortable and respected.

Meet Our Founders

Karissa and Vic

Karissa (she/her) and Vic Doster (he/him)

co-founders of BPOQe
Recognized a critical gap in spaces that claimed to support Black, POC, queer, and underserved communities but often fell short in delivering meaningful impact. Fueled by their vision for authentic inclusivity and transformative care, they set out to create a space that truly meets the needs of these communities.

In 2021, they launched Black People of Queer Experience, Doster & Hoffman Therapy and Consultation, PLLC (BPOQe)—a place rooted in genuine advocacy, intersectionality, and bold progress.

Founders Statement: Owner's Intention for an "Us Space"

At BPOQe, as founders Vic and Karissa, we are committed to creating a decolonized and inclusive space for both our clients and team. While we hold positions of authority, we strive to cultivate an environment of equity and support.

We acknowledge that 100% decolonization is challenging within the systems we must navigate. However, we are committed to continuously challenging and deconstructing these systems to create a space that reflects our values as much as possible.

Our priority is balancing the well-being and safety of our employees while ensuring their voices are heard. We maintain clear channels for feedback and fair decision-making, creating a space where everyone feels valued.

We pledge to:

This is an ongoing journey, and we’re grateful to have you with us. We are committed to this process with humility and an open heart.
