Our commitment to culturally informed therapy and impactful training seeks to address systemic inequities and uplift marginalized voices.
OUR CULTURE
Central to our practice is a decolonized perspective, ensuring that both our services and organizational practices reflect an understanding of historical and systemic inequities. We embrace the rich complexities of intersecting identities and advocate for mental wellness in our communities.
Our Values
- Safe & Brave Spaces
We strive to create environments where individuals feel secure to express their authentic selves, fostering both vulnerability and courage in sharing their experiences.
- Intersectionality & Liberation
We recognize and celebrate the complex identities of individuals, advocating for liberation that addresses the unique challenges faced by those at the intersections of multiple marginalized identities.
- A Decolonized, Anti-Oppressive Approach
Our practices actively dismantle colonial and oppressive structures, ensuring our services are rooted in an understanding of historical injustices and tailored to empower marginalized communities.
- Visibility & Representation

Meet Our Founders
Karissa (she/her) and Vic Doster (he/him)
co-founders of BPOQe
In 2021, they launched Black People of Queer Experience, Doster & Hoffman Therapy and Consultation, PLLC (BPOQe)—a place rooted in genuine advocacy, intersectionality, and bold progress.
Founders Statement: Owner's Intention for an "Us Space"
At BPOQe, as founders Vic and Karissa, we are committed to creating a decolonized and inclusive space for both our clients and team. While we hold positions of authority, we strive to cultivate an environment of equity and support.
We acknowledge that 100% decolonization is challenging within the systems we must navigate. However, we are committed to continuously challenging and deconstructing these systems to create a space that reflects our values as much as possible.
Our priority is balancing the well-being and safety of our employees while ensuring their voices are heard. We maintain clear channels for feedback and fair decision-making, creating a space where everyone feels valued.
We pledge to:
- Evaluate and improve our practices regularly
- Celebrate diversity and foster belonging
- Stay accountable through education, policy reviews, and progress tracking
This is an ongoing journey, and we’re grateful to have you with us. We are committed to this process with humility and an open heart.
Here I feel like everyone is a part of the tribe. We are all different but get along so well, it is truly like family. We may not get to talk everyday and miles away but when we come together, it's like we spoke yesterday. Although we are growing and things change, it's not painful and they try to be as transparent as they can. Our opinion matters and it is valued. That really means something when you can be vested in the work you do and the outcome of the work culture you are in.
I love that the company offers group consultations, team meetings, fun group activities, community development, and learning opportunities. You will not regret applying to such an awesome company. What are you waiting for to be a part of the BPOQE Family?
